A Healing Sanctuary
On September 13, Ayana Kareem led a zine-making workshop at A Healing Sanctuary, an artist-operated urban garden in Newark’s North Ward. Copies of zines were available and distributed to the community. With Antoinette Ellis-Williams, Ayana showed visitors how to make their own two-sided zine and performed her poem, An Ode to Agriculture. Melisa Gerecci experimented with various colorways, printing each artist’s story on one side and her artwork on the reverse, to create double-sided mini poster zines for community distribution. Antoinette and Ayana invited the public to attend the October 13 launch of the Cookbook Lookbook 2025 Calendar and our October 12 table at Branch Brook Parkfest, all part of city-wide Newark Arts Fest.
